I just read an article about how L. A. is going to replace most of its palm trees with non-palms like sycamores, because the palms are more trouble than they're worth (i.e. too expensive to maintain). A shot like this might not only end up beng great because it is—the light, the composition, the evocative noir feeling and skateboarding undertones (!), but for the historic landscape memorializing aspects of it, when palm trees will only be found in a few tourist locations.
